The Admiral Nakhimov heavy nuclear cruiser will become the most dangerous ship of the Russian Navy thanks to new weapons, radars and electronic warfare equipment. After modernization, the project 1144 ship will be able to sink vessels of any displacement.
This is the conclusion of National Interest military analyst Peter Suciu.
"As part of the repair and modernization, the warship will be equipped with Fort-M (SA-N-6 Grumble) and Pantsir-M anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as powerful Paket-NK and Otvet anti-submarine missiles. It will also have the ability to fire high-precision weapons, including hypersonic missiles "Zircon", missiles "Onyx" (SS-N-26 Strobile) and missiles of the family "Caliber" (SS-N-27 Sizzler), " the publication says.
Work on the rearmament of the cruiser is planned to be completed in the near future.
Recall that the heavy cruiser project 1144 was launched on April 25, 1986, and on December 30, 1988, the ship of the 1st rank under the name "Mikhail Kalinin" was introduced into the Navy of the Soviet Union. The total displacement was 25,860 tons, and the draft was 10.3 meters. Length-230 meters, width-25 meters, height-59 meters. The crew of the ship is 744 people.
Thanks to two nuclear reactors, the range of navigation is not limited, the autonomy is 60 days. The main armament is 20 P-700 Granit cruise anti-ship missiles, each weighing seven thousand kilograms. Two 130-mm artillery pieces allowed effective fire on ground and surface targets. Before the modernization, the cruiser could carry three Ka-27PL, Ka-29 and Ka-31 helicopters. The ship has a powerful air defense and anti-submarine defense system.
On April 22, 1992, the cruiser Mikhail Kalinin was renamed Admiral Nakhimov. In 1999, it was delivered for repair and modernization in Severodvinsk.
