TSAMTO, March 1. As part of NAVDEX-2021, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on February 22, a ceremony was held for the adoption of the support ship (L72) Al Saadiyat (Al Saadiyat) by the UAE Navy.
His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation.
According to Emirati media, the sheikh noted that the UAE Navy is currently undergoing accelerated modernization with the support of the national defense industry.
The construction of the "Al-Saadiyat", which is actually a large landing ship, was completed in early 2021 at the enterprise of the Emirati company Al Fattan Ship Industry.
According to the information provided by the UAE Navy during NAVDEX-2021, the length of the vessel is about 71 m, width-14 m, draft-2.7 m, displacement-about 3100 tons. The main power plant consists of two MTU 12V4000M3 diesel engines, which provide a maximum speed of 10 knots.
Al-Saadiyat is equipped with a bow ramp for loading and unloading troops and cargo, as well as a helicopter pad in the aft part of the superstructure. The armament consists of two 12-tube MLRS, as well as two remote-controlled modules. The vessel is equipped with a SATCOM satellite communication system. It is expected that the ship will be used for various tasks, including supply, transportation of troops and cargo, as well as medical evacuation.
In 2012, Al Fattan Shipbuilding and Maintenance Est built the LSV75 support ship (L71) Al Shareeah, which entered service with the UAE Navy at the end of 2012. Its length is 78.7 m, width-15 m. Although Al-Saadiyat belongs to the same class, Al-Shariah differs from it in the size, layout of the superstructure, including the helipad, located one deck higher. The design of the deck cranes and the bow ramp also differ.
