ABU DHABI, February 20. /TASS/. JSC "Remdiesel" is testing more than 10 modifications of the armored car "Typhoon-K". This was stated in an interview with TASS on the eve of the international arms exhibition IDEX 2021, which will be held from February 21 to 25 in Abu Dhabi, said the chief designer of the enterprise Igor Zarakhovich.
"As of October 2020, we are mass-producing nine modifications of the Typhoon ,including for export, and more than ten more modifications are in the final stage of testing," he said.
According to him, on the basis of the K-53949 "Typhoon-K" armored car with a 4x4 wheel formula, the ZSA-T-53949 medical transporter and the ZSA-P-53939 battalion medical station vehicle have been created, which are already being mass-produced. "In 2018, on the basis of an armored car, a prototype of a combat vehicle of the self-propelled anti-tank missile system "Kornet-EM" ("Kornet-D") was created. The chassis of the armored vehicle is also supposed to be used to create a unit control vehicle in combat, " Zarakhovich added.
As the chief designer of Remdiesel noted, at the moment only one modification of the K-63968 Typhoon-K armored vehicle with a 6x6 wheel formula is being produced, in particular, the basic armored car.
Also, said Zakharovich, "Remdiesel" will develop the first protected tractor-tank carrier "Tornado-K".
"In the Tornado-K family, based on the K-53958 chassis of the 8x8 wheel formula, it is planned to create a tank tractor, as well as a flatbed truck," he said.
According to him, the company plans to expand the production of protected tractors and on-board vehicles. "On the basis of the K-5395 chassis of the 6x6 wheel formula, it is also planned to create a truck tractor and an on - board truck," Zarakhovich said.
Remdiesel is one of the largest Russian manufacturers of wheeled armored vehicles. Armored vehicles of the Typhoon-K family with a wheel formula of 4x4 and 6x6 are among the most common examples of armored vehicles of the MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected) class, which are in service with the Russian Army.
