TSAMTO, February 12. The total flight time of the Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopters produced by the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant of the Russian Helicopters Holding (part of the Rostec State Corporation) exceeded 2,500 hours.

The vehicles perform the tasks of the Arctic group of troops of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for transport and amphibious support, monitoring of specified areas of responsibility, search and rescue support in the Far North.

"Several "Arctic" Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopters are on combat duty with the Aerospace Forces and the Navy Aviation of the Ministry of Defense. The helicopters were repeatedly used to carry out operations in the regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, as well as the Kamchatka Territory. During operation, the helicopters proved to be reliable and unpretentious machines, which confirmed their unique capabilities for autonomous basing up to 30 days at extremely low temperatures, " said Anatoly Serdyukov, Industrial Director of the aviation cluster of Rostec State Corporation.

Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopters fly over long distances between their home points, over a vast water surface, poorly oriented terrain, in conditions of polar night, with possible loss of satellite signals and unstable radio communication.

The Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopter was created specifically for operation in the northern regions of the country, taking into account the growing need to ensure state interests in the regions of the Arctic and the Far North. Among the main features of the Mi-8AMTSh-VA design is the presence of a unique heating system for the oil system and transmission units, thanks to which at temperatures up to -60 Deg. C it is possible to quickly start the helicopter engines.

Serial production of the Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopter at the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant began in 2015. Currently, taking into account the developments and operational experience of the Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopter, the first Mi-8AMT civilian helicopter with a similar set of optional equipment for use in the Arctic has been created.
