Ex-Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov also noted that with the current budget of the armed forces, these were " almost imperceptible expenses"
MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. About 10-20 billion rubles a year were spent for 10 years on the development of modern Russian weapons-the Avangard hypersonic complex, the Peresvet laser complex and the Poseidon underwater vehicles. This was announced on Thursday by the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for environmental protection, former Defense Minister (2001-2007) Sergey Ivanov.
"I will not hide, I was involved in the early development of weapons, which now appeared on the Russian army, which recently in the message the President said - and "avant-garde", and "Peresvet" and "Poseidon", and more. It took 10 years to [develop them] without strain, without noise and dust, without huge financial resources, that is, gradually, conditionally, 10-20 billion rubles a year, " he said, speaking at a presentation organized by the Russian Military Historical Society.
Ivanov also noted that with the current budget of the armed forces, these were "almost imperceptible expenses". "But we did it without any effort. Without too much propaganda noise. When they did, they announced it. They didn't make much noise," he said.
The Avangard combat unit is capable of flying in the dense layers of the atmosphere at a hypersonic speed of up to 27 M (about 32 thousand km / h), maneuvering along the course and altitude and overcoming any missile defense. The first missile regiment, armed with a complex with hypersonic gliding wing units "Avangard", took up combat duty in the Yasnensky compound in the Orenburg region at the end of 2019.
The Poseidon underwater vehicle can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear warheads and is capable of destroying enemy infrastructure, aircraft carrier groups, etc. According to the Ministry of Defense, the Poseidon spacecraft, together with the carrier submarines, is part of the so-called ocean multi-purpose system. UAVs will get high speed and unlimited range, working depth of immersion - more than 1 km.
The laser complex "Peresvet" is the first Russian combat complex based on new physical principles. The details of it are classified. For the first time, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the Avangard, Peresvet and Poseidon complexes in March 2018.
