The concern of the East Kazakhstan Region "Almaz-Antey" has tested an upgraded interceptor drone "Wolf-18", designed to automatically intercept other drones. According [...] to RIA Novosti, now the company plans to present an unmanned vehicle for state tests. They are expected to begin before the end of 2021.
Today, the world is actively developing drones that could intercept other similar devices. The need for such drones is caused by the growing popularity and availability of drones, because of which they are often used by attackers. We wrote more about ways to intercept intruder drones in the article "Buzz me here ."
The Wolf-18 interceptor drone received an optical-location system for detecting intruder drones, as well as three reticule guns. The operator of the "Wolf-18" only needs to give the command to intercept, and the detection of intruder drones and their neutralization will be performed automatically by the drone. In the event that the "Wolf-18" unsuccessfully uses up all the reticulars, the device can ram the intruder drone.
"Wolf-18" is made according to the scheme of a quadrocopter with a take-off weight of up to six kilograms with dimensions of 60 by 60 centimeters. The drone can stay in the air for up to 30 minutes. Other details about the drone are not specified.
In 2019, the American startup Anduril Industries introduced the Interceptor drone, which can be part of a perimeter protection system against penetration and is designed to intercept intruder drones. Intercept other drones Interceptor, capable of accelerating up to 160 kilometers per hour, produces a battering ram. The device is equipped with a set of sensors for flights in the daytime and at night.
