Moscow. February 10. INTERFAX-The creation of the aircraft carrier of the Manatee project will provide a technological breakthrough in many segments of the Russian economy, including the nuclear industry, believes the General director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Alexey Rakhmanov.
"I am convinced that the implementation of the project to create an aircraft carrier (and its air group) can lead to a technological breakthrough for more than 10 years in many segments of the economy and industry. In addition to shipbuilding, it is also in the aircraft industry, mechanical engineering, nuclear technology, instrument making, IT, weapons production, metallurgy and metalworking, " Rakhmanov said in an interview published on the website of the Zvezda TV channel on Wednesday.
According to Rakhmanov, the project involves equipping the Manatee with a nuclear power plant, as well as the ability to operate not only existing, but also promising aircraft. This will be achieved through the use of both a springboard and-in the future-an electromagnetic catapult.
Rakhmanov said that the USC design bureaus could not stay away from the project of such a large and powerful ship, despite the fact that it was created on a purely initiative basis.
As a proposed aircraft carrier for the Russian Navy, the "Nevsky PKB" was prepared by the project "Manatee".
In February 2018, Rakhmanov told Interfax that USC was working on the project of a new aircraft carrier on an initiative basis.
"We are actively working on this, because we understand that there is certainly a demand for such ships," Rakhmanov said at the time, noting that the decision on whether to build an aircraft carrier will be made by the military.
The Russian military stated that the creation of a new aircraft carrier for the Navy is laid down in the second program period of the state armament program for 2018-2027.
In November 2017, Yuri Borisov, as Deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry (now Deputy Prime Minister), said: "If we talk specifically about aircraft carriers, then this is the end of the program, we plan to develop and lay down modern aircraft carriers."
Now the Russian Navy has one aircraft carrier-the Admiral Kuznetsov.
In July 1919, the USC annual report was published, which stated that Russia had developed concepts for future ships - an aircraft carrier, a destroyer, a frigate, and two types of submarines.
"The concepts (shapes) of innovative ships of the future have been developed: an aircraft carrier, a destroyer, a frigate, non-nuclear submarines with an air-independent power plant, nuclear submarines of the 5th generation," the document said.
