TASS, February 9. The Arab interplanetary station "Al-Amal" entered the orbit of Mars. This was reported on Tuesday by Sky News Arabia. The TV channel calls this event " the first success of the Arabs in space."
Earlier on the mission's Twitter page, it was reported that the probe approached Mars "after a 204-day journey, covering more than 480 million km." It was noted that to enter the orbit of the planet, the device reduced the speed from 121 thousand km / h to about 18 thousand km / h.
The Al-Amal probe was launched into space in July last year aboard a Japanese H-IIA launch vehicle launched from the spaceport on the Japanese island of Tanegashima. This interplanetary station was fully developed and assembled by specialists from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
"Mission successfully accomplished," UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum wrote on Twitter. He also congratulated his country and all its people on this significant achievement.
The UAE became the fifth country after the United States, Russia, the EU and India to reach the fourth planet in the Solar System. As reported on Monday, the online portal Phys.org After arrival, Al-Amal will study the Martian atmosphere. The probe will be placed in a special elliptical orbit, which will allow it to track how the planet's climate changes as the seasons change and during major dust storms.
