A line of piston engines for unmanned aerial vehicles will be created in Russia within five years. They will also receive attack drones.
This was stated to RIA Novosti by Mikhail Gordin, Director General of the Central Institute of Aviation Engine Building named after P. I. Baranov. He added that typical Russian piston engines will have different capacities - 50, 80, 150, 200, 500 horsepower. And the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has already defined the technical requirements for them.
Mikhail Gordin also expressed his opinion about the fact that so far the attack drones have not reached mass production. He does not see this as a disaster and is sure that by studying foreign experience, it is possible to do even better.
At the moment, the Armed Forces of Russia are mainly armed with reconnaissance drones, including the Orlan-10, Leer, reconnaissance and strike Orion, kamikaze drones Kub and Lancet. Serial samples of heavy strike unmanned aerial vehicles - "Hunter", developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau, weighing 20 tons, "Grom" - the Kronstadt group, weighing seven tons, "Altius" - the Ural Civil Aviation Plant, weighing five tons, are not yet ready. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation would like to see the maximum number of domestic components in them.
