MOSCOW, February 3 / Radio Sputnik. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the agreement on the extension of the START treaty has entered into force, the Russian Federation and the United States exchanged relevant notes, according to the website of the diplomatic department.

"On the third of February, the Russian Foreign Ministry exchanged notes with the US Embassy on the completion of the internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the agreement on the extension of the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms of April 8, 2010. Accordingly, this agreement entered into force on the same day, " the report says.

It is specified that "the agreement will be valid in the form as it was signed, without any changes, additions, until February 5, 2026".

"The key to reaching this agreement was a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joseph Biden on January 26," the website explains.

Moreover, Moscow hopes that the extension of the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (STCW-3) will overcome the trend towards the breakdown of arms control mechanisms, and is ready to work together with the United States to strengthen global strategic stability, the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

"We hope that the understanding reached with Washington on the fate of the treaty, which is a cornerstone for international security, will help to overcome the tendency that has prevailed in recent years due to the destructive policy of the United States to break down the mechanisms of arms control and non-proliferation," the report adds.

The foreign Ministry assumes that "significant efforts will be required" in order to return the Russian-American dialogue in this area "to a stable trajectory, to achieve new major results that strengthen our national security and strategic stability in the world."

"Russia is ready for such work. We call on the United States to take an equally responsible approach and respond constructively to our respective initiatives, " the article concludes.

Before that, the Kremlin's press service said that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a document on the extension of the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (DSNV-3) for five years.

Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that Peskov called for a" sober assessment " of relations between the Russian Federation and the United States after the DSNV.
