The large landing ship (BDK) "Peter Morgunov", built at the Baltic Shipyard "Yantar" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), completed the interbase transition from the Baltic and arrived at the main base point in the Northern Fleet - Severomorsk. The ceremony of the solemn meeting was held with the participation of the Commander of the fleet of the Hero of Russia, Admiral Alexander Moiseev. He welcomed the crew of the BDK and congratulated them on their arrival at the main base of the Northern Fleet - Severomorsk, which will become the main base of the ship, " the message reads.
It is noted that in the main base, the ship was met with an orchestra, according to tradition, the fleet commander handed the commander of the BDK "Peter Morgunov" captain of the second rank Vyacheslav Solovyov a fried pig.
The fleet clarified that the new ship is enrolled in the connection of the Red Banner Kola Flotilla of the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet, it will strengthen the existing connection of landing ships and will mainly operate in the seas of the Arctic Ocean as part of the Arctic grouping of the Northern Fleet. "The ship will take part in the upcoming exercises of the Northern Fleet. Earlier it was reported that the crew of the BDK consists entirely of military personnel of the Northern Fleet. During the time they spent in the Baltic, including during the state sea trials in the Baltic Sea, the sailors managed to study the material part of the ship and were trained at the Joint Training Center of the Russian Navy.
BDK project 11711 have a total displacement of about 5,000 tons and are the largest surface ships built in the Russian Federation in recent times. The ship's capacity is 13 tanks or 36 armored personnel carriers, up to 300 paratroopers, up to 30 trucks. The capabilities allow you to transport up to 1,500 tons of cargo in standard 20-foot sea containers.
