MOSCOW, January 27 - RIA Novosti. Short-range anti-aircraft missile system (SAM MD) "Tor-M2" in the near future will become interspecific, it will have a ship analog, said the general director of the Izhevsk Electromechanical plant "Kupol "(part of the concern of East Kazakhstan region "Almaz-Antey") Fanil Ziyatdinov.

"A large block of work is aimed at the transition to a modern element base, it is generally a constant, continuous process. The carrier base is being diversified, in particular, products on a wheeled floating chassis will appear in the model range of SAMs. We also strive to make the Tor-M2 air defense system interspecific: we are working on the creation of a ship-based complex, " Ziyatdinov said in an interview with the National Defense magazine, which will be published in the January issue.

He recalled that the Tor air defense system has already undergone three waves of deep upgrades since its adoption in 1986, which have dramatically increased its combat capabilities, and work on improving it continues continuously.

"These works are aimed at improving all the tactical and technical characteristics of our air defense systems, in particular, expanding the target range, increasing the ability to intercept small-sized, low-flying and high-speed means of air attack, increasing noise immunity, further automation and robotization of combat work, and increasing all fire and reconnaissance capabilities," Ziyatdinov said.

In addition, he noted, work is underway to modernize the complex as a whole, as well as its key components and devices. More advanced phased array antennas, passive detectors, and calculators are being developed.

"This opens up new opportunities for the tactical use of products, increases the flexibility of managing the available composition of air defense systems and the cost-effectiveness of their use. Also doubled the range of the data relay battery command post provided an opportunity to visually alert the operator of a combat vehicle on approaching targets with ranges of up to 90 kilometers, resolved a number of other tasks. There are no analogues of the implemented solution in the world practice, " said the General Director of Kupol.
