TSAMTO, January 22. The shipbuilders of the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) brought the mine defense ship "Pyotr Ilyichev" of the project 12700 "Alexandrite"out of the workshop.
At the end of December 2020, the shipyard's specialists completed work on the formation of the hull and part of the superstructure of the ship, saturating them with systems and mechanisms. Further completion work will be carried out outside the workshop. The factory workers will have to install the second tier of the minesweeper superstructure, install the tower-mast device, antenna equipment and general ship systems. The launch of the ship is scheduled for February 2021.
The PMO ship "Pyotr Ilyichev" was laid down in July 2018. It became the sixth ship of the line of the project 12700 "Alexandrite", the construction of which the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard is commissioned by the Russian Navy. Earlier, the plant handed over to the customer four ships of this project. Another four (including the PMO ship "Pyotr Ilyichev") are at the shipyard in varying degrees of readiness.
The project 12700 "Alexandrite" was developed by the Central Marine Design Bureau "Almaz" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). These ships belong to the new generation of minesweeping forces and are designed to combat sea mines, which the new PMO ships can detect both in the water of sea areas and in the sea ground, without entering the danger zone. To combat mines, ships can use various types of trawls, as well as remote-controlled and autonomous uninhabited underwater vehicles.
During the construction of these ships at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard, the latest Russian technologies are used, which have no analogues in the world shipbuilding. The ships of this project have a unique, the world's largest hull made of monolithic fiberglass, formed by vacuum infusion. In comparison with the metal, the weight of the composite case is 20 percent. below. It has high strength, is not exposed to aggressive chemical environments and corrosion, and the service life, in compliance with the operating standards, is unlimited. Other advantages of the composite hull include its "non-magnetic", which provides greater survivability of the ship when searching for mines.
According to the plans of the Main Command of the Russian Navy, the new-generation PMO ships will form the basis of the minesweeping forces of the fleets of the Russian Navy in the short term, significantly increasing the effectiveness of the tasks.
