Moscow. January 17. INTERFAX-Two experimental design projects for the creation of marine gas turbine engines are additionally being considered by the United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec), the head of the UEC Alexander Artyukhov said.
"Today we have three target niches for horsepower - from 6 to 27 thousand. In addition, we are discussing two more Okrov projects up to 35 thousand horsepower, " Artyukhov said on the air of the Military Acceptance program on the Zvezda TV channel.
In November 2020, UEC Deputy General Director Viktor Polyakov said that the Severnaya Verf Shipyard received the first domestic diesel gas turbine unit to equip them with frigates of Project 22350 (Admiral Gorshkov type).
"This is the finish line of the import substitution program for ship diesel gas turbine units. Today, we declare with full responsibility that we produce and supply domestic marine gas turbine units, " Polyakov told reporters.
He recalled that the work was carried out since 2014, when the Russian Federation stopped receiving aggregates from Ukraine and other countries.
The deputy Director of the UEC said that Russian developments are better in terms of imported engines previously supplied to the Navy.
In turn, the First Deputy General Director of Rostec, Vladimir Artyakov, said that only a few manufacturers in the world have such competencies.
"Rostec consistently implements programs for the development of modern engines of all types. The creation of marine gas turbine power plants and units is a high-tech process. Only a few manufacturers in the world have such competencies. We are ready to meet the demand of Russian shipbuilders for new gas turbine units. The second unit of this series is planned to be delivered in December 2020, " Artyakov said.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian Federation installed Ukrainian engines on frigates of the project 22350 and 11356.
The Navy has two frigates of Project 22350 - "Admiral Kasatonov" and "Admiral Gorshkov".
The ships of this project are created using stealth technology ("stealth"), they are designed to conduct combat operations in the far ocean zone against surface ships and submarines of the enemy, repel attacks by means of air attack both independently and as part of a combination of ships.
