Repair and modernization of the multi-purpose nuclear submarine of the Pacific Fleet K-925 "Samara" will be completed in 2023, writes TASS with reference to a source in the military-industrial complex. After that, the boat will be released to the test - including the new missile complex "Kalibr-PL".
Samara is a representative of project 971 "Pike-B". Submarines of this series are characterized by reduced acoustic visibility and powerful weapons. Their main task is to protect their strategic submarines on combat duty routes and hunt for enemy missile carriers.
Their 14 built Project 971 submarines at Samara and Bratsk are the most amazing fate. These submarines traveled the Northern Sea Route on dry land-on the deck of the Transshelf dock ship. Initially, both submarines were repaired in Kamchatka, but then it was decided to upgrade them at the Zvezdochka enterprise near Murmansk.
A pair of submarines with a displacement of 8,470 tons each were loaded onto an even more gigantic vessel and delivered across the Arctic seas in an unconventional way. In the course of deep modernization, Samara will be able to use modern cruise missiles. Six boats of the series are undergoing a similar transformation: three each from the Northern and Pacific Fleets.
