Two new strategic submarines of the Borey-A project were ordered for the Russian Navy. These boats will be the ninth and tenth ships of Project 955.
Mikhail Budnichenko, head of the Northern Machine-Building Enterprise, spoke about the contract for two new submarines of Project 955A . The relevant agreement was signed in July last year.
The submarines will be the ninth and tenth ships built under the project 955 "Borey". The Borey-A variant is an improved version of the submarine. In 2020, the Russian Navy received the first of these submarines.
The project 955 boat belongs to the latest generation of submarines — the fourth. It carries 16 Bulava ballistic missiles: previously there was information about a different number of missiles on upgraded ships, but as far as can be judged, it does not correspond to reality.
In addition to the submarines of Project 955, the Russian Navy receives other submarines of the fourth generation-multi-purpose submarines of Project 885. The second such submarine is due to enter service next year.
Earlier it became known about the planned test from the lead ship of Project 885 of a new hypersonic missile.
