The military cleared more than 10 thousand hectares of land
HMEIMIM / Syria/, December 26. /TASS/. Russian sappers during their work in Syria have defused more than 150 thousand explosive objects, clearing more than 10 thousand hectares of terrain, said the commander of the group of Russian troops in Syria Sergey Kuzovlev.
"Forces engineering units in the Syrian Arab Republic cleared more than 10 hectares of area have been cleared and destroyed more than 150 thousand explosive objects, contains the crossing of the Euphrates river, which transported more than 120 thousand people and 60 thousand units of equipment," said Lieutenant-General at the opening ceremony of the alley of the engineer troops at the air base of the armed forces in Hamima.
The alley is open for the 320th anniversary of the engineering troops, which will be celebrated in January. The servicemen planted more than 40 trees there and erected a monument to the memory of sappers who died in local conflicts.
Military engineers have been working in Syria for the last five years. They were engaged in demining settlements, including Aleppo, Palmyra and Deir ez-Zor, destroying terrorist shelters, training the Syrian military. Russian specialists have trained more than 1,2 thousand Syrian sappers at the mine clearance center of the Syrian Armed forces, a branch of the international mine action center of the Russian armed forces in the city of HOMS.
