Moscow. December 23. INTERFAX-Technologies tested during the dive of the Vityaz-D unmanned underwater vehicle into the Mariana Trench in May will also be used for military purposes, said Alexey Rakhmanov, head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).
On May 8, 2020, the Russian autonomous uninhabited underwater vehicle Vityaz-D dived to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The sensors of the "Vityaz" recorded a depth of 10 thousand meters 28.
"We were very afraid that we would have problems with communication, but in the end all the signals passed with even better quality and more confidence than we could have imagined. This is also a breakthrough technology that goes not only in the civilian, but also in the future in the military segment, "Rakhmanov said in an interview with the OTR TV channel on Wednesday.
"We have worked out the unique possibilities of using robotics, controlling without a person at a distance, "Rakhmanov said about the Vityaz's dive into the Mariana Trench. According to him, this "opens a new page in the possibility of using robotics for the purposes of both research and development of the subsurface of the World's oceans," the head of USC said.
"Now we are engaged in habitable vehicles, we are engaged in their design for walking to the same depth, and I assure you that these vehicles will be even more serious from the point of view of human protection," he said.
Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, commenting on the May 9 dive of the deep-sea robot "Vityaz-D" to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, said: "This is not our only breakthrough development - there are a number of them. There is a lot of work ahead and, I am sure, new achievements."
