This project 03050 (code "Huys"), aka the upgraded project 1496M1 (code "Manatee") is actually almost completely new in relation to the border patrol boats of the previous projects 1496M and 1496M1, which were built for the Border Service of the FSB since 2004. The new project was carried out by the Department of advanced Shipbuilding of JSC "SSZ "Vimpel" together with the Central Research Institute of the Navy (TSNIIMF), taking into account the wishes of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia to improve technical characteristics and habitability. A wide range of opportunities for performing patrol functions in the coastal zone is provided due to effective armament, economy, availability of modern equipment, navigation and communication.
