Moscow. December 16. INTERFAX-The MS-21 medium-haul passenger aircraft will receive a fully domestic wing made of composite materials next year, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation Andrey Yelchaninov said in an interview with Interfax.
"individual elements of the wing using completely domestic composites are manufactured and tested. We hope that next year the MS-21 aircraft will be equipped with a fully domestic composite wing. Thus, we will completely eliminate dependence on foreign suppliers, " Yelchaninov said.
According to him, the first flight of the MS-21 with the Russian PD-14 engine is also a landmark event.
"We cannot exclude sanctions or the influence of individual states on the composition of production cooperation. all projects for the creation of civil aircraft started at a time of smooth business relations with all supplier countries, without political background. I can assure you that at the level of enterprises, the relations of business partners are maintained, but they are forced to listen to politics, " said the deputy chairman of the Military-Industrial Complex, answering the question about the sanctions pressure on the industry.
"Of course, there are situations when in real time you have to make point decisions - to open work and replace certain components on the plane. This applies only to the civilian segment. In the production of aircraft and helicopters for the Russian Defense Ministry, we are fully protected from any sanctions impact," Yelchaninov said.
Russia was able to solve problems with titanium fasteners for the MS-21 aircraft, the supply of which was previously stopped by American companies, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said earlier in an interview with Interfax.
"Simultaneously with the problem of composite materials, the issue of titanium fasteners has been resolved," Borisov said.
He noted that the termination of deliveries of foreign composite materials for MS-21 affected the timing of the project.
"The sanctions affected the timing of the project - it was necessary to find an alternative, new suppliers of missing materials, to strengthen the work on import substitution within the country," the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation said.
In February 2019, the head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, said that the serial production of MS-21 aircraft is being shifted by a year due to the termination of the United States of America's supply of composite materials.
"Due to the fact that the Americans stopped the supply of composite materials, we are switching to our own composites. The necessary developments and Russian partners, in particular, Rosatom, are already available. The launch date for mass production is somewhat shifted. We were supposed to produce several aircraft in series by the end of this year, and now it will move to the end of 2020 - that is, it is moving by a year, " Chemezov said at the time.
According to him, the composite materials will be Russian, and not bought abroad.
US sanctions against JSC Aerocomposite (part of PJSC UAC) and JSC ONPP Technology named after Romashin (part of Rostec) threatened the creation of a composite " black wing "for the MS-21 aircraft, the Kommersant newspaper reported in January last year.
