Moscow. December 12. INTERFAX-the Electron-VM oxygen production System on the International space station (ISS) has once again failed due to pressure problems, the station's crew said during talks with Earth.
Electron turned off not because of power problems, but because of problems with oxygen pressure, " cosmonaut Sergey Ryzhikov said during talks with the MCC, broadcast by NASA.
According to him, the failure occurred around 11:50.
Over the past two months, the ISS's oxygen supply system has failed at least five times. Failures were reported in the work of "Electron" on October 14, 17, 19 and 21, as well as on December 10. Roscosmos said that the situation did not threaten the life and health of the crew.
The Electron system is located on the Russian segment of the ISS in the Zvezda module. While the system is being repaired, a backup system is operating in the American segment of the station.
Since August 2020, the ISS crew has been searching for and eliminating air leaks in the Russian Zvezda module. It is suggested that depressurization may be related to the age of the station. This point of view is shared, in particular, by cosmonaut Ivan Wagner, who returned from the station in October.
For his part, the Executive Director of Roscosmos, Sergey Krikalev, rejected claims about an increase in the number of breakdowns at the station and said that the ISS modules are able to work significantly longer than their warranty period.
Vladimir Solovyov, Deputy head of the Energia rocket and space Corporation, said earlier that the Corporation predicts "an avalanche-like failure of numerous elements on Board the ISS" after 2025.
