Britain has declared a significant presence of Russian vessels near its waters

Britain noted the frequent passage of Russian warships near the territorial waters of the United Kingdom in recent weeks. In total, the Royal Navy tracked nine Russian Navy pennants, including the anti-submarine ship Vice Admiral Kulakov, which passed near the Western coast of Scotland.

In Britain, in the past few weeks, nine Russian warships have been spotted near their territorial waters, RIA Novosti reports the United Kingdom Navy.

London noted that the Russian Navy ships have never violated British borders, which shows the professionalism of Russian sailors.

"Ships of the Royal Navy are monitoring the significant presence of the Russian Federation near the waters of great Britain," the British side said in comments.

It is also reported that in the past two weeks, eight Royal Navy ships have conducted a coordinated operation to track Russian submarines, destroyers, corvettes, patrol ships and accompanying tugs and supply vessels.

The area of operation extends from the English channel and the Celtic sea to waters close to the West coast of Scotland. As an example, Britain cited the tracking by the British frigate Northumberland of the movements of the Russian anti-submarine ship "Vice Admiral Kulakov" near the Western coast of Scotland.

In October this year, the Daily Mail reported that the number of Russian submarines operating in the North Atlantic has increased dramatically. In particular, near the coast of great Britain, Russian low - profile submarines of the Akula class-multi-purpose submarines of the project 971-were allegedly discovered.

"The number of Russian submarines entering the North Atlantic is staggering," the publication quoted a source in the Royal Navy as saying.

The article emphasized that the Russian side began to send two or three submarines to the zone of operations of the British fleet instead of one, as it was before. The source described the situation as " serious."

Local military experts recognized the threat of a "terrifying onslaught" of Russian submarines, which were previously under the control of the British Navy and the United States, because now NATO countries, apparently, can not track these submarines.

The British air force and Royal Navy have significantly increased patrols near Russia's borders, seeking to detect "vulnerabilities" of Russian defense, the Sunday Times wrote in September.

The material indicated that in the three weeks since the beginning of autumn 2020, at least 28 British military aircraft were sent to the Russian borders in the Black and Barents seas, with up to five combat vehicles participating in the flights at a time.

The long-range flights involved Typhoon fighters and reconnaissance aircraft: Sentinel, RC-135 and Sentry E-3 AWACS. In addition to the coast of Crimea, British military aircraft were spotted near Murmansk, where submarines of the Russian Northern fleet are based.

According to a senior source in the military circles of Britain gathered in such missions information will help the experts of the British Ministry of defense to identify "vulnerabilities in the enemy's defenses".

In the same month, the Sunday Telegraph newspaper quoted the head of British Military intelligence, Lieutenant General Jim Hockenhall, as saying that Russia is making large investments in the development of the submarine fleet and deep-ocean assets.

So, according to him, London is concerned about "an Autonomous underwater vehicle capable of delivering nuclear warheads to targets on the shore or even to an aircraft carrier group at sea."

This device can also pose a threat to Internet and power supply cables laid on the bottom of the oceans, a senior military official pointed out.

British experts assessed the growing strength and capabilities of the Russian Navy in the summer of this year-after the parade of ships on the day of the Russian Navy on July 26.

As indicated in the British media, Moscow has invested a lot of effort and money in modernizing its fleet in recent years. In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin at the same time announced the entry into the Navy of another four dozen ships and equipping them with hypersonic weapons.

On the Neva river in honor of the holiday passed 46 ships and vessels of the Russian Navy, they were about 4 thousand sailors and officers.

Celebrations were also held in the cities where the Russian Navy bases are located - Severomorsk, Baltiysk, Sevastopol, Kaspiysk, Vladivostok, as well as in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and at the fleet base in the Syrian Tartus.
