Lieutenant Colonel Vladislav zaykovsky was appointed commander of the new 81st military transport aviation regiment. The 610th center for combat use and retraining of military transport aviation personnel named after air Marshal N. S. Skripko is also stationed at the Ivanovo-Severny airfield.
The 81st military transport aviation regiment was first formed as part of the Soviet air force in 1970 as a regiment on An-22 "Antey" heavy military transport aircraft, also based at the Ivanovo-Severnoye airfield. In 1998, the regiment was disbanded.
As our blog has already reported, to date, four Il-76MD military transport aircraft have been upgraded to the Il-76MD-M level at the technical base of PJSC Ilyushin Aviation complex in Zhukovsky, of which, according to known data, the first two sides (delivered in 2016 and 2018) are being used for testing in Zhukovsky, and the other two were transferred to the 610th center for combat use and retraining of military transport aviation personnel in Ivanovo in early 2019.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian defense Ministry plans to upgrade 41 combat military transport aircraft Il-76MD to the level of Il-76MD-M. Serial modernization work was supposed to be carried out at aircraft repair plants or at technical air bases of Military transport aviation.
