Russian radar "Container" was able to detect the aircraft - "invisible" NATO
The Container radar station, located in Mordovia 12 months ago, recorded flights of inconspicuous fighters of NATO countries during its service, RTI JSC reported. A year ago, the defense Ministry announced that a solid radar field would be created along the Russian borders.
The first over-the-horizon radar station "container", which took up combat duty in Mordovia last year, confirmed its ability to detect NATO fighters thousands of kilometers from the Russian border, which were created using technologies to reduce radar visibility ("stealth"), the press service of JSC RTI-radar, technologies, information told RIA Novosti.
"The radar station has fully proved its importance and effectiveness in controlling movement in the airspace at a distance of more than several thousand kilometers from the state border. Over the past period of time, the Container radar has detected and determined the trajectory parameters of strategic, reconnaissance and tactical aircraft, including flights of low-profile fighters from NATO countries, " the concern's press service said.
In January, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, citing Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, wrote that the "container" with a high degree of probability detected and tracked the flights of American f-35 fighters along the borders of Iran at the time of the crash of the plane "international airlines of Ukraine". "At that time, there were at least six F-35S in the air on the border with Iran's airspace," the Minister said. At the same time, Lavrov noted that this information still requires verification.
The first over-the-horizon radar went on combat duty in Mordovia on December 1, 2019. As noted in the Ministry of defense, this radar can track the movement of air targets at a distance of more than 2 thousand km from the Russian state border.
Container over-the-horizon radars are created by the Research and production complex research Institute of long-range radio communications (NPC NIIDAR), which is part of RTI JSC. They are designed for ultra-long-range reconnaissance of air space. These stations operate on the principle of reflecting radio waves from The earth's ionosphere.
According to the General Director of NIIDAR Kirill Makarov, quoted in RTI, the station in Mordovia is "a radar complex that closes the airspace of the entire European part of our country." According to Makarov, "Containers" are planned to be placed in various Russian regions.
The new radar system, as indicated by the Russian military, should be similar to the current one and consist of over-the-horizon "Container"type stations. The first of them entered service in the same month. The next station of this type, as noted, will cover the Arctic.
The chief designer of the Container, Mikhail Petrov, previously noted that the new radar can detect stealth aircraft at a distance of 3 thousand km. According to him, one of the most difficult tasks that the complex's equipment solves when processing the signal is to select a number of targets, including bombers, cruise missiles, and carrier - based aircraft, against the background of the earth's surface and interference.
A new-generation over-the-horizon detection radar of the "Container" type, as reported by the commander of the 1st air defense-missile DEFENSE army, Lieutenant General Andrey Demin, can detect the mass take-off of hypersonic cruise missiles or aircraft at a distance of more than 2 thousand km from the Russian borders. The station, as emphasized, will help to reveal the attempt of mass take-off in the direction of Russia of cruise missiles, aviation and in the future - hypersonic cruise missiles.
"If we detect the enemy in time, reveal his plan, we will be able to prevent a strike, and in the event of a real threat, and destroy the enemy, prevent an air strike, from space on Russian objects, "RIA Novosti quoted Demin as saying.
