By the end of 2020, the Russian global navigation satellite system (GLONASS) did not reach the accuracy indicators declared in the Federal target program (FTP), writes RIA Novosti, referring to the materials of Roscosmos.
According to the Federal target program "Maintenance, development and use of the GLONASS system for 2012-2020", the accuracy of the system should have improved from 9.6 meters to 8.5 meters for civilian users over the specified period, and for special users (excluding the use of additional ground — based means of improving accuracy) - from 2.8 meters to 0.6 meters. However, as recognized in the state Corporation, currently the average consumer accuracy is only 9.5 meters.
"Today, in my opinion, the important thing is not accuracy, but noise immunity. Now this is a key parameter for the military. The achieved accuracy in meters is quite enough for, for example, rocket weapons, " the Agency quotes the opinion of Andrey Ionin, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of cosmonautics named after Tsiolkovsky.
In September, Vedomosti wrote that GLONASS may degrade if the import substitution program fails, the appearance of which is due to US sanctions. It also claimed that the accuracy of the Russian system is 1.2 meters without taking into account atmospheric distortion, which is inferior to similar indicators of the American Global Positioning System (GPS, 0.7 meters) and the European Galileo (0.5 meters).
