RAO "Gazprom" reports that it has started testing a new Russian gas turbine engine, which will replace hundreds of engines that were produced in Ukraine at Soviet facilities.
"Gazprom" has begun resource testing of a new Russian gas turbine engine with a capacity of 16 MW — TM16," the company said in an official release.
It is noted that the gas turbine engine is the key equipment of compressor stations that provide gas transportation. And 16 MW engines are widely used in "Gazprom" gas transmission system.
"Previously, "Mashproekt", a Russian company, actively used the DG-90 engines produced at the Nikolaev "Zorya". In Soviet and post-Soviet times, this company was the main supplier of marine-type gas turbine engines for compressor stations of the Russian gas monopolist. And we are talking about hundreds of such engines.
""The head sample of the TM16 engine was developed and manufactured at the site of PJSC "Tyumen Engine Builders" (part of the "Gazprom Energoholding" Group). All TM16 equipment and components are made in Russia. Key parts and assembly elements were made by "Tyumen Engine Builders" factory. "Some "elements" "were manufactured and supplied by other Group enterprises within the framework of internal cooperation — JSC "Gazenergoservice", JSC "Uralturbo" and JSC "Nevsky Zavod". In terms of characteristics, TM16 surpasses its foreign counterparts.
"It is distinguished by an increased efficiency, improved environmental characteristics, increased maintenance and scheduled service life. TM16 will be used for new construction and for planned replacement of expired foreign engines. The weight and dimensions of the TM16 will allow for replacement without additional capital investments," —Gazprom" reported.
The engine will be tested in real-world operation conditions at the "Turtasskaya" compressor station, where the DG-90 is currently installed.
The "Gazprom" Chairman of the Management Board Alexey Miller, Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov, Governor of the Tyumen Region Alexander Moore, CEO of "Gazprom Energoholding" Denis Fedorov took part in the event dedicated to the start of resource testing.
"I am sure that the TM16 will prove its reliability and become a mass-produced product. This will make a great contribution to the development of the domestic engineering industry and further strengthen the technological leadership of the Russian gas industry," said Alexey Miller.
"Tyumen" Engine Builders", as well as other enterprises of the "Gazprom Energoholding" group involved in production cooperation, will be ready to start mass production of TM16 based on the results of resource tests. In particular, "Tyumen Engine Builders" has implemented a comprehensive modernization program for this purpose: modern machine tools have been purchased and put into operation, and factory infrastructure facilities have been updated," Denis Fedorov said.
Tyumen engineers have designed a new Russian engine so that it fits perfectly in place of the old Ukrainian one. Therefore, workers at gas stations will not have to spend time and resources rebuilding foundations, changing pipes or redoing automation.
