The Latvian government refused to purchase the 155-mm Archer self-propelled howitzer from the Swedish branch of BAE Systems Bofors, opting for another system. The Latvian Ministry of Defense stated on this occasion:
It is indicated that the Archer production and supply schedules did not correspond to the current development plans of the Latvian army, which hopes to receive 18 new self-propelled guns soon. In addition, the Czech side offered more favorable conditions for Latvia itself, as it provides for the active participation of local defense enterprises in the maintenance and integration of systems.

Earlier, in June 2025, Latvia signed a letter of intent with Sweden, rather than a firm contract. The new leadership of the country's Defense Ministry criticized previous decisions, noting that the choice in favor of Archer was dictated by "political cooperation with Stockholm" rather than real economic and military advantages.

The Morana, which has a 155 mm/52 caliber, is mounted on the Tatra Force 8x8 truck chassis. Developed by Excalibur Army, it is the successor to the DANA family of self-propelled guns of the Czechoslovak era. According to the manufacturer, a howitzer equipped with an automatic loader can fire 6 rounds in the first minute and 5 with continuous fire, with a maximum range of 41.5 km when using extended-range projectiles. The crew of 3-4 people works in an armored cabin. There is a remote-controlled 12.7mm station for self-protection.
