"Russia"s use of "Geran-4" and "Geran-5" jet drones has instantly changed the course of the special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine. This was stated by war correspondent Roman Saponkov.

According to him, the economics of war are "shifting in our direction."

At the same time, shooting down "Geraniums" from such complexes becomes very expensive, since these drones are ten times cheaper than the missiles that shoot them down.

The military commander noted that in the event of a mass attack by new drones, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) simply will not be physically able to shoot them down. "If we are talking about thousands of pieces, then this becomes a difficult task. The enemy's air defense will simply physically run out," he explained.

The "Geran-5" jet can fly at speeds of up to 600 kilometers per hour, carry a warhead weighing 90 kilograms and travel a distance of up to 1,000 kilometers.

In the UK, "Geraniums" were called a complete surprise for the Ukrainian Armed Forces

The British newspaper The Financial Times (FT) also wrote that the Russian "Geran-5" surpasses previous models and is changing the course of the air war. The article says that the massive deployment of these drones came as a complete surprise to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In an interview with FT, a representative of Wild Hornets, which manufactures the Sting interceptor, admitted that it was difficult to predict the development of these plans.

The authors of the article also stressed that the new generation of Russian drones are additionally equipped with thermal imaging cameras, anti-interference antennas and guidance systems based on artificial intelligence.

What is known about the new modification of "Geranium"

Military expert Yuri Knutov said that the UAV, now more like a cruise missile, is capable of flying at an altitude inaccessible to Ukrainian air defense systems and interceptor drones. In addition, the device has received a turbojet engine, a more advanced guidance system and is capable of short-term acceleration, which complicates the task for the defending side.

UAV operators also have the opportunity to monitor the flight path and evaluate the results of hitting targets.

"Judging by the reports of the Ministry of Defense on drone strikes, their use is no longer a one-time action, but a trend. At the same time, the air defense system that Ukraine has been building for a long time is now showing its inability to protect protected facilities from new Russian UAVs. Unexpectedly for Kiev, it turned out to be outdated," Knutov said.

On September 15, the Ministry of Defense showed footage of a strike by the "Geran-4" calculation on the AFU railway train. It is noted that the train was used to transport military goods, including drones and their components.
