In March 2026, it became known that Poland plans to re-equip the country's M28 patrol aircraft to combat Russian Geraniums and other UAVs. The M28 is a deeply upgraded version of the An–28, powered by Pratt & Whitney engines. In turn, the An-28, being developed by the Antonov Design Bureau, was produced mainly in Poland.

As stated, a test cycle is now required. The contractor will be PZL Mielec (manufacturer of the M28). The specific parameters of the deal, including the set of weapons and the number of aircraft to be modified, will not be disclosed for security reasons.

The on-board equipment of the M28 in the "drone" version will include an INS, a positioning system based on optoelectronic stations with a laser altimeter and CRPA antennas resistant to interference from electronic warfare.
Previously, the aircraft's combat stuffing was considered in various variants: from the installation of two M134 Minigun machine guns with laser sights in the doors (basic) to advanced solutions in the form of equipping the M28 with a remote-controlled turret with a 12.7mm machine gun operating at 360°, APKWS or FZ275 missiles, 20 mm cannons for firing straight ahead, the second ECO (in the bow), radar, additional means of communication.
