Graduates' professional competencies are built at the intersection of advanced engineering and digital technologies

Rostec State Corporation and the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) have completed the recruitment of the first students for the basic higher education program in the design of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Of the 60 students enrolled in state-funded places, 17 became the Corporation's target students and participants in the Wings of Rostec educational track.

The program was launched by MAI with the support of Rostec as part of a pilot project to upgrade higher education in Russia. This is a separate profile within the framework of the Aircraft and Helicopter Industry, available both through a general competition and as part of a targeted recruitment under the Wings of Rostec program.

The training is aimed at training engineers who will be able to solve a full range of tasks in the field of UAS: design, manufacture, develop application scenarios and maintain equipment after sale. Graduates will be in demand in key roles in the industry, from an architect of unmanned systems to a specialist in modeling their application.

The professional competencies of graduates of the program are built at the intersection of advanced engineering and digital technologies. Students will master the skills of strength calculation and aerodynamics, learn how to build a unified architecture of on-board systems and implement end-to-end technologies.

Among the key disciplines are "UAV Design", "UAS Aerodynamics", "Strength of composite materials and optimization", "Integration of on—board systems", "Artificial Intelligence in UAS", "Testing and Certification", "Scenarios and Application models", "UAS Programming" and others.

"Unmanned aircraft systems are one of the key areas of Russia's technological development and the Corporation's Development Strategy until 2036. Rostec is one of the leading manufacturers of UAS. About 13 of our holdings are involved in this area, which produce more than 20 types of drones for civilian, dual-use and military purposes. At the same time, technologies in this area are rapidly changing: what was effective six months ago may no longer work today. That is why it is necessary to train engineers who are able to think ahead, see global trends and quickly implement advanced technologies, bringing development to mass production. The need of the Corporation's organizations for UAS specialists in the near future is 700 people. The launch of a new educational program at MAI has become another step in the process of training engineers of a new formation," said Nikolai Volobuev, member of the Soyuzmash Bureau, Deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation.

The training program is based on real production tasks. From the first year, students are assigned to enterprises, which by the time they graduate will allow them to become trained specialists who know production from the inside.

Rostec enterprises are developing unmanned systems for various purposes, as well as producing optoelectronic equipment, on-board components and batteries for UAVs, radar stations and anti-drone devices. The Corporation's key holdings are involved in this area.: High-Precision Complexes, Rosel, Russian Helicopters, Shvabe, KRET, Kalashnikov, United Aircraft Corporation, etc.

Wings of Rostec is the Corporation's flagship educational and professional track. Students from the first year are employed by enterprises and by the time they graduate they have practical experience, 2-3 years ahead of the level of training of their peers. The project involves 15 universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, Samara, Rybinsk, Kazan, Ulan-Ude, Perm, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Ulyanovsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Nizhny Novgorod and Omsk.
