TSAMTO, August 27. On August 27, a solemn ceremony of laying the sixth diesel-electric submarines of Project 677 Lada for the Russian Navy took place at the USC Admiralty Shipyards.

The ship, developed by the USC Rubin design Bureau, was named Maloyaroslavets in honor of the city of military glory in the Kaluga Region.

The solemn event was attended by Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral of the Fleet Alexander Moiseev, head of USC Andrey Puchkov, Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, Acting Director General of Admiralty Shipyards Andrey Bystrov, Director General of the USC Rubin Design Bureau Vladimir Dorofeev and other honorary The guests.

"I am confident that the highly professional staff of Admiralty Shipyards, which has extensive experience in the construction of surface ships and submarines, in cooperation with the teams of cooperative enterprises, will adequately cope with the task," said Nikolai Patrushev, assistant to the head of state, Chairman of the Maritime Board.

"Last year we handed over the Velikiye Luki submarine to the fleet, and today we are laying the Maloyaroslavets, the fifth ship in the series. This is the result of decisions taken by the Russian Ministry of Defense following extensive joint work between the leadership of the Navy and the United Shipbuilding Corporation. I would like to thank the Commander–in-Chief of the Navy for this work, which resulted in today's groundbreaking," said Andrei Puchkov, Director General of the USC, in his speech.

The head of the USC, addressing the shipyard workers, said that "the shipyard is waiting for further development. We will continue to modernize the production and energy complex, reconstruct the Main Embankment and crane facilities. Next year, we will begin work on the reconstruction of the deepwater embankment and the modernization of the machine-building workshop. We will pay special attention to working conditions."

"The submarines of this project are the most modern in their class of ships, due to their tactical and combat capabilities, they are an important element of the maritime security system," said Admiral Alexander Moiseev, Commander–in-Chief of the Navy. "It is the Russian school of underwater shipbuilding, the professionalism and rich experience of specialists from the Rubin Design Bureau and shipbuilders from Admiralty Shipyards that make it possible to create and build such ships," said Alexander Moiseev.

By tradition, similar to the Project 636 series of submarines for the Black Sea and Pacific Fleets, the Project 677 ships are named after Russian cities.

The Lada series of non-nuclear submarines is being created according to a modernized design, which the designers developed based on the results of pilot operation by the Navy of the lead ship St. Petersburg. The first updated ship of the series, the Kronstadt, was transferred to the fleet in 2024, and in 2025 the Velikiye Luki submarine joined the Navy. The results of the acceptance tests fully confirmed the set high tactical and technical characteristics of these ships. Currently, the construction of two more submarines is underway at the plantVologda and Yaroslavl. The specialists of the design bureau provide construction support at all stages, from design to participation in state tests.

The submarines of Project 677 represent the most advanced Russian non-nuclear submarines. Low noise levels, effective acoustic protection and an extremely powerful sonar system ensure Lada's superiority over its foreign counterparts. The ship is equipped with rocket-torpedo weapons with the ability to deliver high-precision strikes against sea and coastal targets.
