A new diesel-electric submarine Maloyaroslavets was laid down in St. Petersburg

The Maloyaroslavets submarine will become the fifth ship of the Lada Project 677 series (and the sixth order being built at Admiralty Shipyards according to the design of the Rubin Design Bureau).
To date, Project 677 submarines have been recognized as the most modern and promising domestic non-nuclear submarines both in terms of combat effectiveness and other tactical and technical characteristics. The company is currently building a series of Project 677 submarines. The first ship, the Kronstadt, was transferred to the Navy in January 2024. The Velikiye Luki submarine was transferred to the Navy in December 2025. The third and fourth submarines of Project 677 Vologda and Yaroslavl were laid down on June 12, 2022.
The most important feature of the new generation of submarines is the automated control system for the ship, its combat and technical means and weapons. The secrecy of these submarines is several times higher than that of third-generation submarines. The latest anti-hydrolocation coating reduces the level of the acoustic field so much that the boat can pass unnoticed in the immediate vicinity of the enemy's noise recording installations. The ship is equipped with torpedo-missile weapons.
The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral of the Fleet Alexander Moiseev, head of USC Andrey Puchkov, Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, Acting General Director of Admiralty Shipyards Andrey Bystrov, General Director of the USC Rubin Design Bureau Vladimir Dorofeev.

During the laying ceremony, a ritual was held to weld a plaque with commemorative information about the date and place of construction to one of the elements of the keel set of the future submarine.
According to the tradition of a similar series of Project 636.3 Varshavyanka submarines for the Black Sea and Pacific Fleets, the ships of Project 677 Lada are named after Russian cities. The city of military glory Maloyaroslavets (Kaluga region) He played a key role in the battles of the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Great Patriotic War.
