On August 20 of this year, a solemn commemorative event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding test pilot Eduard Vaganovich Yelyan took place at the museum of JSC Tupolev. His name forever entered the world history of aviation on December 31, 1968, when, on New Year's Eve, he led the crew and took off the Tu–144 supersonic passenger aircraft for the first time, ushering in a new era in world civil aviation.
According to Alexander Zatuchny, director of the Tupolev JSC Museum, this meeting brought together those who personally knew the hero of the day and worked side by side with him, his colleagues and colleagues in flight tests. The company's management and veterans of the enterprise also came to honor the memory of the legendary tester.

Yuri Abrosimov, Managing Director of JSC Tupolev, stressed that for him, as a representative of the younger generation, it is very important that we honor the memory, merits and successes of our great Tupolev people. This technological project was so ahead of its time that even now, without false modesty, we strive for these heights. It is extremely important for us that we gather today in honor of the 100th anniversary of Eduard Vaganovich's birth. We immediately supported this initiative.
Our task is to preserve and enhance this legacy, to remind the younger generation of those who created our aviation industry. I am glad that we are here today, and I believe that such meetings should be held more often, not only on the occasion of anniversaries, but also on a systematic basis so that our next generation can absorb this memory.
During the event, memories were heard not only about the professional exploits and organizational abilities of E.V. Yelyan, but also about his human qualities. Colleagues noted that they considered it an honor to get to know him.

There was also a screening of a documentary about the test work on the program of the first supersonic passenger airliner. The memorable event ended with the solemn laying of flowers to the full-size model of the Tu-144.
Employees of the Taganrog separate division of JSC Tupolev joined the initiative. They laid flowers at grave Rostov-on-Don Eduard Yelyan's grave in the Northern Cemetery.
