The first flight of the second prototype of the Yak-130M aircraft

As reported, on August 1, 2026, the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, a branch of PJSC Yakovlev (part of PJSC United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec State Corporation), hosted the first flight of the second prototype of the upgraded Yak-130M combat training aircraft (serial number 1301400002, tail number "002"). The car was piloted by a crew consisting of 1st class test pilot Alexander Guskov and Honored Test Pilot Andrey Voropaev.

The first flight of the first prototype Yak-130M aircraft built at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAZ) (serial number 1301400001, subsequently marked with the tail number "001") took place in Irkutsk under the control of the same crew on June 25, 2026. The UAC announced the completion of the second prototype of the Yak-130M on October 23, 2025, at the same time, the UAC indicated that the Yak-130M prototype series should include three aircraft in total.

The Yak-130M is an upgraded combat training aircraft with enhanced combat capabilities. which is a further development of the Yak-130. The Yak-130M aircraft is distinguished by the installation of an expanded set of on-board equipment, including the on-board radar station RADAR-130R developed by JSC NPP Radar MMC, the optical-laser thermal imaging system SALT-130K, the on-board defense complex President-S130 and the KSS-130 communications complex.

There is unconfirmed information that Vietnam may become the first upload of the Yak-130M aircraft. Vitaly Yelagin, Director of production at IAZ, said during a visit to the enterprise on July 24, 2026, by Russian President Vladimir Putin that the first deliveries of the Yak-130M aircraft would begin in 2028.
