The new units are responsible for destroying UAV control points and fortified areas.
Special flame-throwing detachments have been created in the troops. They operate as part of the forces stationed in their area. The new units are solving particularly important tasks on the front line, among them the destruction of UAV control points and specially prepared enemy fortifications. The special forces will allow to concentrate maximum firepower in the areas where the most important combat operations will be conducted, military experts say.
CBT against UAVs
Special detachments have been created as part of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces. They are armed with heavy flame—throwing systems (TOS), in particular, the TOS-1A Solntsepek. Now they are not only burning out specially carefully prepared fortifications, accumulations of enemy equipment or personnel, but also striking at UAV control points, sources familiar with the situation told Izvestia.
New heavy flame-throwing units of special forces, as a rule, are deployed in the offensive areas of the Russian forces. The methodical burning out of UAV operators helps to gain dominance in the small sky, which has a positive effect on the effectiveness of the assault troops, the interlocutors explained.

The creation of special detachments of heavy flame—throwing systems as part of the RCBZ troops is an absolutely logical and overdue step dictated by current combat missions, military expert Oleg Zheltonozhko told Izvestia.
"It was no coincidence that TOSY was chosen to perform special tasks — the type of ammunition used by the system determined a lot," the expert explained. — It is an extremely effective and extremely destructive tool for opening layered defenses or destroying fortified facilities.
CBT has high—volume explosive rockets in its arsenal. The principle of their operation is radically different from the work of classical artillery, the expert explained. A conventional artillery shell has a pinpoint effect: it destroys what it directly hits.
CBT ammunition works differently. When it hits a target, it sprays an aerosol cloud of a large-sized combustible substance, which then detonates.
An explosion creates a "shock wave of tremendous pressure," the expert noted. It first moves from the center to the periphery, and then returns.

It is also necessary to take into account the aerosol's burning temperature, which is about 4,000 degrees, military expert Gorenje Leonkov recalled.
"Everything inside the closed loop of the affected area is guaranteed to be ground and burned,— he explained. — Initially, CBT was developed to clean up the area, for example, from the effects of the use of nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.
In search of drone control points
Heavy flamethrowers are suitable for destroying drone control points. The enemy has several basic schemes for the deployment of command nodes, from where UAVs and ground-based drones are controlled, Oleg Zheltonozhko explained. The first involves their location in the basements of buildings and houses or in deep, well-camouflaged and equipped dugouts.
The second scheme of equipment for drone control points provides for their arrangement in barely noticeable small field fortifications. These points are usually camouflaged with extreme care. It is not easy to accurately determine the location of such objects. As a rule, intelligence can only establish the area where they are located.

It is possible to plow large enough areas with standard artillery for days, burning the resource of barrels and expending hundreds of shells without guaranteed results, Oleg Zheltonozhko noted.
"A salvo of a heavy flamethrower system is guaranteed to destroy everything in a given area," the expert explained.
Currently, UAV control points and calculations are among the priority targets of Russian units, since drones have become one of the main means of destruction on the battlefield.
"Their destruction reduces the activity of enemy drones over a particular section of the front line for a long time,— Oleg Zheltonozhko explained.
TOSAS can not only guarantee to hit the operator himself, but also burn out the entire infrastructure — stocks of ready-to-use drones, control panels, antennas, communications equipment, etc.
Concentration of firepower
Special detachments of heavy flamethrowers will make it possible not to "smear" TOSAS along the entire front line, but to concentrate them where they are particularly needed, military expert Alexei Leonkov noted.

"First of all, in places where the enemy's defenses are about to break through," he explained. — Heavy flamethrowers performed well in destroying fortified points and fortification lines.
They are also useful in clearing fields that are densely littered with mines. Volleys of TOSS, if necessary, can clear passages in any barriers, the expert noted.
TOSy in battle
The army currently uses several types of heavy flamethrower systems.: "Pinocchio", "The Sun", "The Dragon" and "Tosochka". The first three are made on a tank chassis, and the Tosochki are made on the basis of armored Ural mines protected from detonation.
TOS-3 "Dragon" is the latest system that began to enter the army during the special operation. Izvestia wrote that she received 15 guides for rocket ammunition.

The technical specifications of the new car have not been officially disclosed. It is known that the Dragon received dynamic armor protection for at least the sides and a "grill" above the launcher — this is what protective screens made of mesh are called.
Heavy flamethrowers have proven themselves well during their The equipment is characterized by good maneuverability and unique firepower, which allows it to solve combat missions in the most difficult conditions.
