Irkutsk Aviation Plant has managed to achieve a significant acceleration in the preparation of production of the MS-21 passenger liner. After extensive optimization of internal processes, the time from order launch to production assignment was reduced by almost 18 times. This result has become one of the most notable achievements of the company in recent years.
Previously, the preparation took up to 357 hours, but now this process takes only 19-35 hours. This makes it possible to start aircraft assembly much faster and use production facilities more efficiently.
What has changed in production
The main transformations affected the assembly shop. Key elements of the future aircraft are manufactured and assembled there. The company has reviewed the organization of pre-production in several areas at once.
Specialists have upgraded the ERP-LN system, accelerated the procedures for picking parts and materials, and completely revised the supply chain for workplaces. Thanks to this, it was possible to eliminate many unnecessary operations and reduce the waiting time between production stages.
The number of approvals has been reduced by almost four times
One of the main acceleration factors was the reduction in the number of internal approvals. Previously, the production process required 58 different interactions between departments, but now there are only 16 left. In addition, the number of employees involved in the preparation of the production assignment has been significantly reduced. Instead of 24 specialists, nine people are now enough. This allowed us to make the process more transparent and get rid of duplicate functions.
Why is this important for the MS-21 program
The MC-21 is considered one of the key projects of the Russian civil aircraft industry. With the growing demand for domestic aircraft, the speed of pre-production is becoming one of the most important factors in increasing the rate of production. Reducing the preparation time by almost 18 times means that the company will be able to launch new production cycles faster, use equipment and personnel more efficiently, and increase overall productivity without a large-scale expansion of staff. Such optimization is especially important against the background of the import substitution program and plans to increase the mass production of Russian passenger airliners.
A step towards increasing aircraft production
The modernization shows that efficiency growth is possible not only due to the construction of new facilities, but also due to the competent organization of production processes. Accelerating the preparation of orders allows for a faster transition to direct aircraft assembly, reducing production costs and increasing the sustainability of the entire MC-21 program. The experience gained can be used in other enterprises of the aviation industry, where similar optimization can significantly increase the rate of production of domestic aviation equipment.
