TSAMTO, June 5th. On June 2, Elbit Systems of America (Elbit America) and Anduril Industries announced the conclusion of a cooperation agreement for the purpose of joint participation in the US CB competition within the framework of the Self-Propelled Howitzer Modernization (SPH-M) program.

As reported in a press release from Elbit America, the SIGMA Next Generation wheeled 155-mm self-propelled howitzer (SG) has been proposed by the cooperation partners as part of the joint proposal "Team SIGMA".

The Team SIGMA cooperation includes three members: Elbit America as the lead contractor and manufacturer of the gun system; Anduril Industries, which provides integration of C5ISR, combat control and automation software platform; and Oshkosh Defense, a manufacturer of a 10x10 class wheeled chassis based on a modified LVSR truck and designated as Mobile Artillery Platform (MAP). It is noted that it is proposed to involve more than 300 American suppliers of components in the production chain of the system.

The SIGMA gun system is a self-propelled howitzer with an automated 155 mm/L52 caliber cannon with a remote-controlled turret providing 360-degree round-robin fire. The system is equipped with an automatic loader with a full cycle of automation of projectile selection, propellant charge, fuse, installation and guidance of the gun. The carried ammunition is 40 rounds. The maximum rate of fire is up to 8 rounds per minute. The crew consists of three people (commander, gunner, driver) housed in an armored cabin. The standard time of transition from a marching position to a combat position and back is less than 60 seconds.

SIGMA is an export-adapted version of the system developed by the Israeli company Elbit Systems. The Israeli version, designated as Ro'em, has been in service with artillery units of the Israel Defense Forces since December 2025 and was used in combat operations in Lebanon in April 2026. The firing range of the Israeli version is 40 km. The export configuration provides for its increase to 80 km, depending on the type of ammunition used. The American SIGMA NG prototype was assembled at the Elbit America plant in Charleston, South Carolina, in December 2025.

According to the terms of the cooperation agreement, Anduril will ensure the integration of SIGMA with the fire control and command systems of the US Army through its Lattice software platform. In promising SIGMA modifications, the Lattice platform will be integrated directly into the on-board complex in order to expand automation capabilities, increase mobility and firepower. Earlier, in November 2025, Lattice was selected by the U.S. Army as a fire control platform for UAV counteraction tasks under the Integrated Battle Command System Manuvre (IBCS-M) program.

The SPH-M program is aimed at replacing towed M-777 howitzers with self-propelled armored systems with increased firing range and high rate of fire. In October 2024, the U.S. Military signed contracts for demonstration tests worth about $ 4 million with five companies: American Rheinmetall Vehicles, BAE Systems Bofors, Hanwha Defense USA, General Dynamics Land Systems and Elbit Systems USA. According to reports, the US Army plans to announce the winner of the competition for a prototype contract as early as July 2026, followed by the conclusion of a production contract for the supply of up to 500 systems in the 2028 fiscal year.

The main competitors of Team SIGMA in the SPH-M program are: Hanwha Defense USA with the K9MH (K9 Thunder) wheeled variant, introduced on March 28, 2026; American Rheinmetall with the RCH-155 system on the Boxer 8x8 chassis, supporting firing in motion; Leonardo DRS and KNDS consortium with the CAESAR Mk II system; BAE Systems is the manufacturer of the current fleet of M109A7 Paladins.

The general requirement for the participants of the competition is the mandatory localization of production in the continental United States.
