In 2025, Rostec State Corporation's investments in scientific research in partnership with universities and research institutes exceeded 19 billion rubles.
Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation, held a strategic dialogue "Science and Business: Building long-term partnerships", dedicated to the development of long-term partnerships and the implementation of joint projects in the aviation and machine-building industries. The event was attended by more than 40 experts from the Corporation, the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, Rospatent, the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Foundation for Advanced Research, as well as rectors of the Corporation's flagship universities. The meeting was held as part of the strategic session "New Materials and Chemistry".
Representatives of key Rostec organizations, including KAMAZ, UEC, UAC, Russian Helicopters Holding Company and others, also took part in the discussion.
The Head of Rospatent, Yuri Zubov, made a report on the modern development of the intellectual property protection system. He noted that today university developments require evaluation by market methods. Therefore, there is a need to work with regulators and businesses to determine what approaches should be used to assess intellectual property rights.
The participants of the dialogue paid special attention to successful examples of cooperation between science and business. One such example is the project of the Irkutsk National Research Technical University and the United Aircraft Corporation, which received support under the national project "Means of Production and Automation". The funds will be used to re-equip the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant named after Yuri Gagarin, where they plan to create a robotic technology complex by 2028. This will significantly improve production efficiency, product quality and reduce dependence on the human factor.
"Science is at the heart of a successful and competitive industry. Today we focus not only on discussing the importance of cooperation, but also on creating specific tools for its implementation. In 2025, the total expenditures of the Corporation's organizations on scientific research in partnership with universities and research institutes exceeded 19 billion rubles. These investments are not just numbers, but a contribution to the formation of a technological foundation for future generations," said Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation.
In addition, Rostec enterprises, together with leading universities, participated in the development of new models of machine tools and components. Last year, within the framework of the national project "Means of Production and Automation", a new model of a qualified customer was successfully tested. The Corporation's enterprises have formed technological requests for the development of machine tools and components for them — 12 projects have received support. The total cost of these works for the next three years exceeds 2.4 billion rubles.
One of the projects developed by the Naberezhnye Chelny Institute (branch) of Kazan Federal University and KAMAZ is dedicated to the creation of laser welding technology for rotating parts. This will increase the technological level of the enterprise and introduce the principles of Industry 4.0. It is also planned to develop a prototype of a new line of automatic electrothermal conveyor processing, which will reduce waste by 50-70% and increase the productivity of thermal workshops by 60-70%.
"Tatarstan has five advanced engineering schools, which were established, among other things, with the support of Rostec. The experience of their development has shown that rapid results cannot be achieved without effective cooperation between industrial partners and universities. Currently, the issue of strengthening cooperation between science and industry within the framework of scientific and industrial associations is on the agenda," said Rifkat Minnikhanov, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The industrial postgraduate program, launched by Rostec State Corporation in cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, has also become an example of successful cooperation between science and industry. It allows young scientists to work on real industrial tasks. The graduate students of KNRTU-KAI, employees of the Corporation's enterprises, shared their learning experiences, emphasizing that their research interests cover promising areas of photonics, helicopter engineering and materials science. For example, the thesis of an industrial graduate student in the field of photonics is aimed at introducing radiophotonic technologies into radar systems, which will improve their noise immunity and reliability.
As a result of the strategic dialogue, proposals will be formed to amend or create regulations that will help harmonize the interaction between science and industry. This was announced by Elena Druzhinina, Managing Director for Science and Business Cooperation at Rostec State Corporation. Rostec's cooperation with leading universities opens up new opportunities for the development of Russia's aviation and machine-building industries, strengthening technological sovereignty and training highly qualified personnel.
The strategic dialogue "Science and Business: Building long-term partnerships" took place within the framework of the strategic session "New Materials and Chemistry", which is taking place in Kazan from May 28 to May 30. The organizers were Rostec State Corporation, the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, KNRTU-KAI and KNRTU.
