TSAMTO, May 14th. A solemn ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the frigate project 22350 "Admiral of the Gromov Fleet" took place at the USC Severnaya Verf shipyard.
This is the ninth ship for the Russian Navy, which is being built according to the project of the Northern Design Bureau of the USC at the Northern Shipyard in St. Petersburg.
The arsenal of Project 22350 frigates is designed to perform a wide range of tasks, including defeating surface ships, convoys, amphibious units, searching for and destroying submarines and ground targets, anti-aircraft, anti-submarine and anti-missile defense of ships and vessels, joint actions with amphibious forces, patrol service, protection of state borders, protection of civilian vessels and objects of maritime economic activity of the Russian Federation.
"The frigates of Project 22350 have successfully proven themselves as reliable ships with serious strike, defensive and search capabilities. They are carriers of all types of missile weapons. The Navy's need for ships of this class is extremely urgent, and the existing plans and programs for the construction of frigates will definitely be implemented," Admiral Alexander Moiseev, Commander–in-Chief of the Russian Navy, said in his speech.
In addition, the frigate has a helicopter deck, which can accommodate Ka-27 helicopters in various designs. The Admiral of the Gromov Fleet frigate is a multi-purpose surface warship carrying high-precision long-range missile weapons, including Zircon hypersonic missiles.
Speaking at the ceremony, Andrey Bogomolov, USC Deputy General Director for Military Shipbuilding and Special Programs, noted that "the key to success in building this ship is close cooperation between the corporation's enterprises and our partners. Dozens of scientific institutes, hundreds of enterprises and organizations across the country are involved in its creation. Only domestic technologies and materials will be used in the construction, which is especially important to ensure Russia's technological sovereignty."
By tradition, a plaque with commemorative information about the date and place of construction was attached to the element of the keel set of the future frigate, after which the section took its place on the hull of the ship.
Currently, three ships of the 22350 project serve in the Russian Navy – the lead Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov, the serial Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov and Admiral Golovko.
The daughter of Admiral of the Fleet Vladislav Gromov took part in the solemn ceremony of laying the frigate Admiral of the Fleet Gromov.
The new frigate is named after the outstanding Soviet and Russian naval commander Felix Nikolaevich Gromov (1937-2021), the first commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy and the first in the Russian Federation to be awarded the personal highest naval rank of the highest officer of the Russian Navy - Admiral of the Fleet (1996).
Felix Gromov served as Commander-in-Chief of the Navy from 1992 to 1997, at a time when government funding could not fully meet the needs of the fleet, and the level of combat training, the condition of the ship's personnel and accidents were deteriorating. At the same time, the military commander managed to preserve the combat core of the Navy and begin construction of new ships. Gromov's great merit was that the country did not lose its navy at that time.
Over the years, Felix Nikolaevich was awarded the orders "For Services to the Fatherland" of the fourth degree, "For Military Merit", the October Revolution, "For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" of the second and third degrees, as well as medals of the USSR and the Russian Federation.
