The ship became the first unit in the planned FF-135 series of frigates for the Myanmar Navy and was designated FF-135-A-1. Construction of the F-19 Talong Min frigate began in Sinmalaika on April 23, 2017, and launching was carried out there on December 24, 2024. Sea trials of the frigate began at the end of January 2026. The ship was named after the Burmese King Thalun, the eighth king of the Taung dynasty, who ruled in 1630-1648, who successfully rebuilt the country, which had been in a state of continuous internal and external wars for almost a century, and carried out a number of reforms. So far, there is no data on the construction of the next ships of this type.
The Talun Min frigate has a standard displacement of up to 4,500 tons, a maximum length of 135 meters, a width of 14.5 meters and a draft of 4.1 meters. It is stated that the ship is equipped with a combined main diesel-gas turbine power plant of the CODOG scheme with engines of an unknown type, with a full speed of 30 knots. The armament is a combination of systems of Chinese and partly North Korean and Indian origin and includes eight Chinese S-802 anti-ship missiles, a 16-charge vertical launcher of the Chinese HHQ-16 medium-range anti-aircraft missile system, a Chinese 76-mm H/PJ-26 universal artillery system, three Chinese 30-mm seven-barrel anti-aircraft artillery systems. H/PJ-12, two North Korean 14.5mm six-barrel anti-aircraft machine guns, two 12.7mm machine guns, two Soviet RBU-6000 12-barrel rocket launchers (presumably purchased in India) and two 324 mm three-tube torpedo tubes using Indian anti-submarine torpedoes Shyena. A Z-9C or Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin 2 helicopter and a Schiebel Camcopter S-100 unmanned helicopter are permanently based in the hangar. The electronic systems are probably made in China and India.
Earlier, the Tanling Naval shipyard in Sinmalai built three more frigates of a constantly improved design for the Myanmar Navy. The frigates are being built with the technical assistance of the PRC and the DPRK. In December 2011, the first Sinmalai-built frigate F 11 "U Aung Zeya" (အောင်ဇေယျ, Aung Zeya) was commissioned, in March 2014 the frigate F 12 "Kyan Sitti" (ကျန်စစ်သား, Kyansittha) was commissioned, and on December 24, 2015, an almost identical frigate was commissioned. "Kian Sitti" frigate F 14 "Sinbyushin" (ဆင်ဖြူရှင်, Sin Phyu Shin / Sinbyushin). These three ships have an estimated standard displacement of about 3,000 tons and a length of 108 m.
It should be noted that at the same time as the commissioning ceremony of the Myanmar Navy frigate F 19 Talun Min, on March 8, 2026, the opening ceremony of a dry dock capable of receiving ships and vessels with a displacement of up to 40 thousand tons was held at the Sinmalai naval shipyard, as well as the commissioning ceremony of the Myanmar Navy of four ships built in Sinmalai. 28-meter river amphibious artillery ships (side numbers from "331" to "334").
