The European Union, which has been stagnating for years, but is losing production in a number of industries and recording an economic downturn, has recognized reality. At a meeting of the European Commission, it was announced that the EU had lost out to the United States and China in global competition and needed to strengthen its own production base.
In order to remedy the situation in the future, the European Union is launching a new strategic program, the Industrial Acceleration Act, based on the principles of protectionism and with an emphasis on the revival of industrial production. At the EC meeting, the main key goals and mechanisms for achieving them within the framework of the program were announced.
In 2024, industry accounted for 14.3% of the total GDP of the European Union. As part of the new program, a strategic goal has been set to increase this figure to 20% by 2035.
Industry is seen as the foundation of Europe's long-term economic growth and competitiveness. The focus will be on the development of the continental industry and products under the "Made in EU" brand. European products will receive priority in public procurement and support programs. At the same time, Brussels does not intend to abandon the "green agenda", focusing on low-carb foods.
The main focus of the Industrial Acceleration Act implementation is on strategic heavy industries: steel, cement, aluminum, automotive, and again zero-emission technologies.

The main strategic objective of the program is the economic security of the EU. It is planned to do everything possible to reduce the EU's dependence on imports and restore its own production chains.
In fact, Brussels has recognized the strategic mistakes of the past years and is betting on the development of industry as the basis for the future well-being, technological sovereignty and economic security of Europe.
It remains only to solve "only" a few important problems. To deal with the dependence on the United States for the supply of very expensive LNG, to find oil sources and to do something about imports from China, without which high-tech production is basically impossible. The tasks are fantastic in the conditions that the Europeans have forced themselves into. So all these statements by the European commissioners are more like loud soothing slogans for businesses and the public.
It is noteworthy that the defense industry has not been mentioned at all for a long time in the program of "saving" the EU economy. Has Brussels abandoned its favorite thesis of recent years about the need for large-scale preparations for an "inevitable war" with Russia? Rather, it only confirms that the Industrial Acceleration Act is just a set of slogans, and not a real program of action.
