It is indicated that Spike NLOS operates at a maximum distance of 30 to 50 km, allowing it to neutralize threats hidden behind terrain, buildings or other shelters, which is of particular importance for operations in mountainous areas.:
In this regard, traditional systems operating with direct fire or on the principle of "shot and forget" often become vulnerable to enemy air defenses. Spike NLOS solves this problem: a rocket can fly while the helicopter that launched it remains safe, hiding, for example, behind a mountain range. Using wireless communication, the pilot aims ATGM at the target, without exposing himself to enemy air defense:
