TSAMTO, February 17th. Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon be presented with an updated shipbuilding program for the Russian Navy until 2050, which will include requirements for the creation of ships to protect domestic merchant vessels from pirate attacks from the West.

The impressive forces of the Russian Navy must constantly protect Russian merchant vessels from Western attacks, Patrushev said.
"In this regard, we are laying down the relevant requirements for the development of the Navy in the updated naval shipbuilding program until 2050, which is currently being finalized and will soon be presented to the president, who has already approved the new Navy Development Strategy and the FSB shipbuilding program," Patrushev said.
As N. Patrushev noted, if the possible naval blockade of Russia by the Europeans cannot be lifted by legal means, the Russian Navy will break through and eliminate it.
"Any attempts at a naval blockade of Russia are absolutely illegal from the point of view of international law, and the concept of a "shadow fleet" used by the European Union is a legal fiction, Patrushev said in an interview. aif.ru . As a first response to possible attempts at a naval blockade of the Russian Federation, Moscow will use political, diplomatic and legal mechanisms, Patrushev said.
"If this situation cannot be resolved peacefully, the Navy will break through the blockade and eliminate it," he stressed.
Speaking about the response to Western pirate attacks on Russian merchant vessels, Patrushev called the Navy the best guarantor of shipping safety.
Measures to respond to Western attacks on Russian merchant vessels are being developed, including through the Maritime Board, N. Patrushev said.
"We believe that, as at all times, the Navy is the best guarantor of the safety of navigation," Patrushev stressed.
According to him, the current situation shows that of all the types of armed forces, the navy is the most powerful and at the same time flexible geopolitical instrument suitable for active use both in peacetime and during armed conflict.
"The presence of a fleet, the ability to protect our economic activities at sea, export our oil, grain, fertilizers is a prerequisite for the normal functioning of the state," Patrushev added.
At the same time, according to him, Russia should focus on creating a high-tech Navy, which is reflected in the Navy's shipbuilding program until 2050.
"Russia needs a balanced fleet capable of solving all pressing tasks and meeting the demands of the time, primarily technological," Patrushev said.
According to him, naval business is changing dramatically now - unmanned boats have recently joined the fleet, but in the near future, the world's leading fleets will be massively replenished with unmanned ships of at least the corvette class, dozens more new technologies will be introduced that will completely change the face of warfare at sea.
"In this situation, we need to rely on the creation of a high-tech fleet. That is why one of the priorities that we place in the mentioned documents is technological leadership," N. Patrushev summed up.
