Cadets are introduced to the theory and trained in piloting

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, February 4. /tass/. Specialists in the field of unmanned systems began to be trained at the Nizhny Novgorod Guards Higher Military Engineering Command School. Cadets of three courses are trained in piloting drones, creating the necessary elements on a 3D printer, as well as self-disassembly and assembly of various UAV samples, a TASS correspondent reports.

"The cadets of the first, second and third courses began to study with us, since the school was recently opened. This includes both basic education - Russian, mathematics, physics, and training directly in specialties, including radio engineering basics. Then we move on to more complex elements - we undergo training in course design, designing various kinds of systems. In addition, cadets carry out work on board installation, assembly of unmanned systems, they are trained in various UAV discharges and 3D printing," said Captain Igor Boltenkov, a lecturer at the Department of Power Supply and Radio Telemechanics, in an interview with the agency.

The school has all the necessary infrastructure for training, from classrooms where cadets learn theory to indoor and outdoor training grounds where practical exercises take place, including overcoming trails of varying complexity.

Computer simulators and drones with their own

As noted by cadet Stanislav Ananyev, who improved his drone control skills on a computer simulator, the advantages of such classes are that a person has the right to make mistakes and the opportunity to hone their skills. "You can make mistakes on the simulator, but in real life mistakes can be fatal," he said.

When working directly with drones that are brought to the school, including from the special operation area, the most difficult thing is working with their firmware and flashing, said one of the cadets.

"I am currently assembling and disassembling an unmanned aerial vehicle that was shot down by [our] air defense systems. We can study how everything works, which boards are used. <...> These are real drones that are widely used [in the area of a special military operation]. The most difficult thing, perhaps, is the firmware of the drone," said the cadet.

Young people also learn how to work with microelectronics, configure processors, and create programs for transmitting data to control panels for FPV drones.

The main thing is practice

The cadets, in an interview with journalists, drew attention to the fact that more attention should be paid to practice in training.

"It seems to me to be a myth and a misconception that the gaming past somehow helps to perform tasks using UAVs. The most important thing is the technical skills, how you can set up the drone, how you understand the software. The simplest thing is to fly, the most difficult thing is to set up, rewire drones, assemble them - what you do with your hands," Kirill Bogdanov said.

Ananyev, in turn, noted that the school differs from the "citizen" by having a large number of practical classes. "This is what makes us different from civilians, because any theory is always reinforced by practice. Yesterday we had the theoretical part, and today we are going through it in practice. Yesterday we studied in theory how to assemble it, today we came to class and are already engaged in assembly or disassembly," he said.

In addition to working with aircraft, cadets get acquainted with the work of ground-based robotic complexes such as Courier and Dispatch.

"Here we have the Courier ground-based robotic complex, which is designed for mining with TM-62 and TM-83 anti-tank mines. And also to destroy enemy manpower with weapons, including automatic grenade launchers and a large-caliber machine gun "Utes," Boltenkov said.

Professional development

In addition to training cadets, a program of additional education is being implemented at the school. The personnel have already arrived from the area of the SVO to undergo an intensive 30-day training course for specialists of the unmanned systems units. Following the results of the training, the military personnel will receive excellent qualifications and a certificate of state registration, after which they will continue to perform tasks in the units of the unmanned systems of the engineering troops.

During the training, specialists will also demonstrate practical skills in manufacturing parts on 3D printers and in classes for assembling UAVs and robotic complexes (RTKs), flight training skills in VR classes, and the practical use of UAVs and ground-based RTKs in the disposal of antipersonnel and anti-tank mines of domestic and NATO designs.
