New Marine Corps outpost: The United States is deploying troops near Taiwan

Over the past two months, the US Marine Corps has been transporting materiel to the Japanese island of Yonaguni, which is located just 110 km from Taiwan. As indicated in the Naval News publication, the Pentagon intends to organize a new outpost here to fight China.:

The ILC aims to make Yonaguni Island a key hub within the framework of the "first island chain" strategy.

This concept provides for the creation of a continuous barrier that will make it difficult for the PLA Navy to exit the East China and South China Seas into the open Pacific Ocean. The "first Chain" begins in Kyushu and ends off the coast of South Vietnam.

One of the main nodes of the first line should be the island of Yonaguni with an area of 28.88 km2, where infrastructure construction has begun this year (in particular, an advanced aircraft refueling station has been established), and now troops are being deployed under the cover of exercises. At the same time, the Pentagon said that the materiel is being delivered here to "provide humanitarian assistance and respond to natural disasters."

The Naval News notes:

The island's proximity to Taiwan and the infrastructure available here (ports and runways) give it an important role. The continued presence of Marines armed with HIMARS launchers and NMESIS anti-ship batteries on Yonaguni could deprive the PLA Navy of access to the Pacific Ocean. The island also serves as a logistics hub transporting materiel to Taiwan.
