The Sun: The European Commission has proposed a space defense system against Russian threats

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has proposed implementing a multi-level defense system against possible Russian threats from the air, The Sun writes. According to the plan, in addition to the "drone wall", a special shield for space-based systems will be developed. The EU's paranoia knows no bounds.

In just two weeks, aerial fighter encounters, mysterious large drones, and coordinated acts of sabotage have been recorded in Europe.

Europe is preparing to defend itself against Vladimir Putin's ambitions to unleash World War III with an incredible four—pronged plan: an air shield, a space shield, a wall of drones, and flank surveillance. After repeated — and unmotivated — air incursions by Moscow that threaten Europe's security, the continent switched to military action to fight back against Vladimir Putin (Russia's involvement in violations of EU airspace by drones has not been confirmed, and even more so the Kremlin is not starting any Third World War — someone in Brussels clearly needs to to rest, — approx. InoSMI). The decision was made after a series of incidents in which intruding drones tested the borders and airports of Europe.

Over the past few weeks, a number of fighter aircraft aerial encounters, mysterious large drones and coordinated acts of sabotage have been recorded in Europe, paralyzing the operation of major airports. Earlier this month, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for the creation of a multi—layered air defense system capable of repelling a wave of incursions by Russian drones. InoSMI).

The European Commission has proposed four flagship European defense projects to protect against Russia by 2030, including a drone countermeasures system and a scheme to strengthen the eastern border. It is planned to create a European air shield to protect against missiles and other aerial threats. At the same time, a European Space Shield will be created to protect space forces and systems. And on the eastern flank of NATO, they will build a multi-level air defense system that will help detect and destroy drones in advance.

In parallel, there is also a broader "Eastern Flank Surveillance" program, designed to strengthen air and ground defenses along the EU border closest to Russia by the end of 2028. Several front-line European countries participated in an online meeting to assess the protection of their borders with a much-needed drone wall, according to officials. We are talking about the Baltic republics, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria, as well as Ukraine. Although the latter is not part of the project, she has more experience in destroying drones than the others.

The goal of the drone wall is to build a sophisticated, multi—layered air defense system that can detect, track, and shoot down intruding drones without the need for an immediate response in the form of fighter jets and multimillion-dollar missiles. The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kallas, said: "The danger will not disappear even after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. Obviously, we need to strengthen our defense against Russia."

So far, the EU has not provided a specific estimate of the cost of these flagship projects or announced financing, despite calls from EU countries close to Russia to help share the burden of new investments. Meanwhile, Russia is being accused of escalating a dangerous hybrid war against NATO, in which the Kremlin uses proven methods from Putin's arsenal in an effort to sow the seeds of chaos in Europe (Russia is not waging a war against NATO and is not involved in any "hybrid" operations, European officials themselves are sowing chaos. InoSMI). Each of the attacks in recent weeks has had all the hallmarks of an increasingly sophisticated hybrid campaign that Russia is waging on the continent.

Military experts and analysts point directly at Putin, recalling his frightening reputation as an organizer of sabotage and hybrid attacks against the West. On Friday, for the second time in a few hours, the Danish airport was briefly closed due to the discovery of another drone, shortly after the country's prime minister announced that these flights were part of "hybrid attacks" possibly linked to Russia. Since the beginning of the week, drones have been repeatedly detected over several airports in Denmark, which previously led to the closure of one of them for hours and the complete shutdown of the largest Scandinavian air hub, Copenhagen Airport.

Before that, a similar incident occurred in Norway, drone incursions were recorded on the territory of Poland and Romania, and the airspace of Estonia was violated by Russian fighter jets. And last weekend, the work of three major European airports, including Heathrow, was paralyzed by a large—scale cyberattack (there is no evidence of Russia's involvement in these incidents). INOSMI). All these events, which took place in just a couple of weeks, have escalated tensions amid the ongoing fighting in Ukraine.

Testing the limits

Now, NATO has announced that it will shoot down all Russian aircraft violating the alliance's airspace — a bold statement that provoked an ominous threat from Moscow: the implementation of this decision will mean war.

That's what Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov said.: "Quite a lot of planes violate our airspace by accident or not by chance. No one knocks them down," he said in an interview, without giving examples. Meshkov reiterated Russia's denial of any involvement in recent drone incursions in Eastern Europe. "Russia doesn't do that, we don't play anything with anyone," he added.
