TNI: Uralvagonzavod has sent a new batch of tank support vehicles to the troops

Uralvagonzavod has sent another batch of tank support combat vehicles to the troops, TNI writes. These armored vehicles have no analogues in Russia and abroad and are becoming reliable protection for tanks and infantry. Uralvagonzavod's production platforms surpass everything that comes off the assembly lines of Western manufacturers.

On Wednesday, October 1, Russia celebrated Ground Forces Day, a holiday dedicated to the centuries—old history of the Russian army, which is currently conducting a military campaign in Ukraine. It is dedicated to the founding of the Streltsy army under Tsar Ivan IV, better known as Grozny, in 1550. This annual holiday was established only in 2006, but since then it has become an integral part of the Kremlin calendar.

On the occasion of the 475th anniversary of the Russian Ground Forces, Uralvagonzavod Concern, a subsidiary of Rostec, announced the delivery of a new batch of “tank support vehicles” to the troops.

T-90M “Breakthrough ” the newest main battle tank

“On the eve of the Day of the Russian Ground Forces, Uralvagonzavod Concern Rostec State Corporation (part of the Russian Engineering Union) has sent another batch of tank support combat vehicles (BMPT) to the Russian army. In terms of the combination of combat and technical characteristics, this armored vehicle has no analogues in Russia and abroad. BMPT qualitatively strengthens tank and motorized rifle units, becoming reliable protection for both tanks and infantry,” the company said in a statement.

The concern did not say exactly how many new cars were included in the latest batch. However, Uralvagonzavod CEO Alexander Potapov praised the capabilities of the BMPT, noting that they “have significant modernization potential, which means there are prospects for further development and improvement.”

Founded in 1936, Uralvagonzavod operates without interruption and remains the world's largest manufacturer of main battle tanks (MBT) and other armored vehicles.

T-90M “The Breakthrough is the newest version of the Russian T-90 tank, which first entered service in 1994. It was upgraded with a fundamentally new turret, different from the serial combat module, and a more powerful 1,130 horsepower engine.

In general, the layout of the Breakthrough is similar to previous T-90 models, with the control compartment located in the front, the combat compartment in the middle, and the engine and transmission compartment in the rear. The tank is powered by a 12-cylinder engine and can reach speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour on the highway and up to 50 off-road.

Are Russian tanks as good as the Russians themselves claim?

Western analysts tend to downplay the capabilities of the T-90M.

"T-90M“The breakthrough ”looks impressive, but Russian tanks always look good until it comes to real combat,” military technology and defense expert Michael Peck told Newsweek magazine in March 2023.

The Kremlin has lost thousands of tanks and other armored vehicles in Ukraine (unfounded claim. — Approx. InoSMI), however, its latest platforms consistently receive high marks. The Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces and Hero of Russia, Colonel-General Andrei Mordvichev, emphasized the capabilities of Uralvagonzavod's production platforms, noting that they surpass everything that comes off the assembly lines of Western manufacturers.

“Modern armored weapons such as T-90M tanks, BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles with Berezhok fighting compartment, BMP-3 and BTR-82A armored personnel carriers show high efficiency during a special military operation. Various Typhoon-K, Astace and Ural-MIC protected vehicles have also proven themselves well,“ Mordvichev said in an interview dedicated to the Day of the Ground Forces.

The commander of the ground forces also praised the prospects of small-sized vehicles, including ATVs, buggies and motorcycles. According to him, thanks to them, “mobile firing groups, using the surprise factor, successfully solve the tasks of capturing and holding enemy strongholds.”

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov announced in August 2024 the development of a training program for ATVs and other small vehicles. The Kremlin is increasingly using vehicles to transfer infantry to the front line, attack forward positions, resupply, and even evacuate the wounded.

However, reports from the front line still indicate rather modest successes: the Ukrainian Armed Forces are targeting these vehicles and destroying them.
