TSAMTO, September 10. The first of two multi-purpose patrol ships of the PPA (Pattugliatore Polivalente d'ALTURA), ordered in 2024 from the Italian company Fincantieri, has arrived in Indonesia.
The welcoming ceremony of the ship, named (320) Bravijaya, took place on September 8 at the Tanjung Priok Naval Base in Jakarta. The event was attended by Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafri Sjamsoeddin and the Commander of the armed forces, General Agus Subiyanto.
The ship (320) Bravijaya arrived in Indonesia, having completed a 44-day passage from Italy with port calls in five countries. Judging by the photos from the welcoming ceremony, the 143-meter ship is armed with a 127-mm artillery mount, a 76-mm/62-mm Super Rapid Strales/Sovraponte aft cannon and two 25-mm cannons. The Indonesian Navy had previously announced its intention to arm ships with Aster-30 air defense systems, but funds have not yet been allocated for the implementation of this program.
Surabaya will become the home port (320) of Bravijaya. The second ship sold to the Indonesian Navy (Ruggero di Lauria), which received the new name (321) Prabu Siliwangi, is currently being prepared for transfer to the customer.
As reported by CAMTO, in March 2024, the Italian Fincantieri signed a contract for the supply of two new multipurpose patrol ships PPA (Pattugliatore Polivalente D'ALTURA) To the Indonesian Ministry of Defense. The sale value is 1.18 billion. euro (1.27 billion dollars). The agreement entered into force in April 2024 after the Indonesian Ministry of Defense fulfilled all related conditions.
The ships supplied in the Light Plus configuration were originally ordered for the Italian Navy. As part of the deal with the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Fincantieri acts as the general contractor for the supply and coordinates the activities of other partners in integrating the required combat systems aboard ships and providing related logistics services.
The fifth ship of the PPA class, (P433) Marcantonio Colonna, built for the Italian Navy, was renamed (320) Bravigia in January 2025. The official ceremony of handing over the ship to the Indonesian Navy took place at the Fincantieri facility in Mugiano (La Spezia) on July 3, 2025. The ship left for Indonesia on July 29, 2025.
The purchase of the ships is accompanied by a compensation package, which, in particular, includes consultations on the development of a shipbuilding enterprise in Indonesia, the development of a long-term business strategy, the supply of a marine simulator, the reconstruction of a shipyard, the delivery of didactic materials, as well as six months of training in Italy.
In addition, the compensation package includes asset management support for the modernization of the shipyard, training of management personnel, a training center, the development of training programs in military educational institutions, etc.
The PPA ships developed by Fincantieri are multi-purpose vessels designed to perform a wide range of tasks, including conducting combat operations, patrolling, search and rescue operations, and protecting civilians. The Light Plus configuration is adapted to combat aerial and surface targets.
