As part of his working visit to the Volga region, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the ODK-Kuznetsov enterprise (part of the United Engine Corporation of Rostec State Corporation), where he got acquainted with samples of power plants for aviation and the fuel and energy complex.
The President was presented with the latest PD-8 engines for Superjet regional airliners, PD-14 engines for MC—21-310 medium-haul aircraft and VK-650V engines for Ansat light helicopters. On September 2, the import-substituted Ansat made its maiden flight with VK-650V power plants manufactured by the St. Petersburg company ODK-Klimov.
The exhibition also featured a mock-up of the GTD-110M high-power turbine. The production of GTD-110M is organized at the Rybinsk enterprise ODK-Saturn. The first production turbine has been successfully operating as part of the Udarnaya thermal power plant since the fall of 2024 and supplies electricity to the south of Russia.
In addition, the NK-37 gas turbine engine produced by the Samara-based ODK-Kuznetsov enterprise was demonstrated. A promising line of gas turbine power plants with capacities of 25 and 32 MW is being developed based on the upgraded NK-37 engine.
Vladimir Putin was accompanied by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Presidential Aide Alexey Dyumin, Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov, Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov, Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov, Governor of the Samara Region Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, CEO of Rostec State Corporation Sergey Chemezov, CEO of the UEC Alexander Grachev.
After visiting the exposition, the president held a meeting on engine building issues and listened to reports.
"The engine industry, its development, and the state of this industry are certainly one of the key indicators of our technological development and sovereignty. This is a strategic industry with both civilian and defense purposes. I am referring to passenger, transport, combat aviation, space exploration, equipment, power plants for the fuel and energy complex. A lot has really been done. But there are also some issues that require special attention. I would like to emphasize that both in Soviet times and today, Russia is one of the five world leaders in the development and production of aircraft and rocket engines. This year, the import substitution of engines on Ansat helicopters and Superjet aircraft has been completed. Accordingly, the latest VK-650V gas turbine engine and PD-8 turbojet engine are installed there, which meet the best international standards. Such positive dynamics in the industry creates conditions for strengthening the country's industrial and technological sovereignty, for the renewal of transport, energy and, in general, for economic growth and the achievement of national development goals," said Vladimir Putin.
During the meeting, UEC General Director Alexander Grachev told the head of state about the state of the engine industry, promising projects and the development of the engineering school. Alexander Inozemtsev, Managing Director and General Designer of UEC—Aviadvigatel, reported on the progress of production and operation of the PD-14 as part of the MC-21-310 test flights. Viktor Polyakov, Managing Director of UEC-Saturn, informed about the progress of certification work and preparations for mass production of the new PD-8 aircraft engine.
