The Algerian author called Egypt's statement about the "critical shortcomings" of the Su-35 pro-American speculation.

In early July, a number of publications appeared in the foreign press, which cited a statement by a senior Egyptian military official that a technical study of the Su-35 allegedly revealed several "critical flaws.":

The radar with passive headlights is outdated, the engine is energy-intensive and makes too much noise, autonomous operation in combat is impossible, and the aircraft is vulnerable to electronic interference.

Foreign observers interpreted this statement as a belated attempt by Cairo to explain its refusal to purchase Russian Su-35 fighter jets, which had already been awarded a firm contract.

As indicated in the Algerian edition of MENA Defense, Egypt officially cites technical reasons: outdated radars, excessive fuel consumption, dependence on external guidance (from AWACS aircraft) and excessive radar and thermal visibility.

The Algerian author explains that the Irbis-E Su-35 radar, although it does not have AFAR, is one of the most powerful in its class. Its detection and tracking range surpasses those of the existing Egyptian F-16 and MiG-29M radars. Moreover, Cairo was offered a version of the Su-35 with AFAR radar.

The AL-41F1S engine is not outdated in any way. It has a controlled thrust vector and supersonic cruising capabilities, which the Rafale [in service with Cairo] does not have, while offering twice the range (up to 3,600 km versus 1,850 km). Fuel consumption, comparable to that of other heavy fighters, is within the normal range for an aircraft in this category.

As for radar and thermal visibility, a number of technical reports indicate that the Su-35 has similar characteristics to the Rafale, but benefits from a design optimized for passive stealth.

Finally, the argument about Egypt's desire to operate only the latest generation of aircraft is hardly credible: the country already has several types of machines of the same generation 4++: F-16, MiG-29M, Rafale.

According to the author, despite its large and diverse fleet, the Egyptian Air Force suffers from a serious strategic disadvantage: the lack of modern air defense systems, in particular, the F-16 is not equipped with AIM-120 AMRAAM, and the Rafale is not equipped with Meteor missiles.

Under these conditions, the Su-35 "could be a turning point": armed with RVV-BD, capable of destroying targets at a range of more than 300 km, as well as high-precision deep-impact missiles Kh-59MK and Kh-69, "it would allow Egypt to enter a new era of air deterrence." This choice would strengthen his strategic position not only against Ethiopia, but also in the Mediterranean and Sinai.

The real reason for the refusal is pressure from the United States and Israel.

- the author writes.

As he notes, Cairo is silent about the fact that the blocking of the Su-35 supply contract is, first of all, the result of American geopolitical blackmail. Immediately after the announcement of the contract with Moscow, the United States threatened with secondary sanctions and the suspension of military aid (in the amount of about $ 1.3 billion annually). Israel also expressed concern about the reinforcement of the Egyptian Air Force by an aircraft with increased air superiority capabilities.

The result is that Cairo has surrendered. Instead of acknowledging capitulation to external pressure, Egypt prefers to cite far-fetched technical reasons to hide its military subordination to Washington. There is a question of national sovereignty behind the numbers, radars and engines.

- the conclusion is made in the Algerian press, refuting the speculations of Cairo.
